Hydrodynamic Tests of Innovative Tourist Submarine

This paper deals with the resistance, towing, seakeeping, and open water propeller tests of an innovative tourist submarine model. Tests were performed in a 276 m long towing tank. As model is complex structure composed various parts attached to pressure hull, largest possible model, scale 1:5.0, was produced, considering tank depth capabilities measurement equipment. Resistance deep on surface calm water. The tested speed range both cases up 5.5 knots. To ensure avoidance free effects, resistance for different draughts then extrapolated infinite depth. Smaller effective powers found condition. results are compared independently computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis using OpenFOAM. A fair agreement between experimentally numerically predicted power found, while reasons differences explained. towed rope 1.7 kn–3.5 kn, force measured. Seakeeping irregular beam waves at zero check flooding risk hatches. Open main thrusters propelling conducted, indicating that demand thrust slightly larger initial estimates.
